How to Brush Your Teeth Properly

Submitted by Aventura Dentists on March 5, 2011

Often debated is the topic of how exactly to brush your teeth. So we thought we’d share some tips from a real dental professional.

Watch this demonstration from a dental hygienist to learn exactly how to brush your teeth correctly. The trick is to start with the sides of your back teeth first. Use tooth-sized circular motions and NOT harsh back and forth sawing as that can damage your gums. Remember, you are trying to remove plaque and build-up so be sure to brush for a full two minutes.

Some more tips about brushing your teeth:

Use the toothbrush to lightly sweep the tongue (especially towards the back of your mouth). Bacteria can gather here and this is what causes bad breath.

Consider motorized toothbrushes – they can do an amazing job on keeping your teeth clean.
